Stephen Joel McIntyre
November 21, 1949 ~ July 1, 2020

Steve McIntyre, 70, long time Oklahoma City resident, son of the late Dick and Ruth McIntyre of Tulsa, passed away on July 1st after a short but brave battle with cancer. Steve began his life in DeRidder, Louisiana. His family moved to Tulsa where Steve spent his youth, growing up and graduating from Edison High School, class of 1968. Steve came from a classically trained musical family and played a variety of instruments in bands and orchestras. He was a drum major for the Edison Screaming Eagles Marching Band. During his early adult years Steve came to be an accomplished musician, playing string bass and electric bass guitar in popular 1960’s Tulsa rock groups The Great Danes and The Young Aristocracy. Steve also traveled to Europe playing string bass for the Young Tulsans Youth Orchestra.

Steve attended Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma receiving a degree in Communications. He went on to become a program director at several radio stations from Oklahoma to Colorado. He was a popular on air disk jockey going by the professional name of Steve Joel. At Central State Steve was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and during that time made many lifelong friends with fellow fraternity brothers. He cherished his many fraternity friendships and stayed close with them through the years.

Steve continued his career switching to the sales trade and for many years sold a variety of products throughout the Midwest and Southwest.

Throughout his life Steve listened to and loved all kinds of music. Over the years he collected and enjoyed driving several classic cars. He was a passionate member of Clan MacIntyre and cherished his Scottish heritage introduced to him by his Dad, Dick. He was a dedicated Oklahoma Sooners fan and loved following them. Steve married Cynthia Clancy of Oklahoma City with whom he spent many happy years together. Cynthia and Steve have a son together, Patrick who they are immensely proud of. Steve is also survived by his brothers, Richard McIntyre and wife Bonnie of Woodland, Georgia and Dave McIntyre and wife Susan of The Woodlands, Texas.

Raise a glass to Steve when you think of him. He will be forever remembered lovingly by friends and family.
