Billy Fred McGuyer, 80-year-old Marietta resident, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, in the Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta. No local services are planned at this time.
Billy began this life on March 15, 1943, in Dallas, the son of W.H. and Nora (Young) McGuyer. He grew up and attended school in Oak Cliff, Texas. During those early years, Billy was a prize fighter with Golden Gloves. Billy loved the world of rodeo, so much in fact, that he traveled all over the world to rodeos and horse races providing tack to event participants.
In the 1980's, he operated his own homebuilding business in the south Dallas area. Billy worked for the United States Postal Service as a carrier for several years while in the Lancaster, Texas area. After leaving the USPS, Billy began his truck driving career. He drove for several companies over the years, most recently for AAA Cooper in Grand Prairie, Texas. While with AAA, Billy twice received two-million-mile safety awards.
When Billy wasn't working or out on the road, you might find him enjoying the outdoors. He loved taking sightseeing trips to the mountains. Billy also loved collecting and shooting guns.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Chris McGuyer. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Nelda of the home; sons, Kevin McGuyer and wife Jacqueline of Caddo Mills, Texas and Wesley McGuyer and wife Christy of Waxahachie, Texas; stepsons, Mark Wesley of Connerville and Mike Wesley and wife Janae of Quinlan, Texas; grandchildren, Emrick McGuyer, Garrette McGuyer, Lauren Toliver, Jennifer Hurley, Robert Mark Wesley, Jr., Michal Wesley, Jr., and Chase Madden; numerous great-grandchildren; brother, Vernon McGuyer of Corsicana, Texas; sister, Paula Burkham and husband Doug of Dallas; and stepbrother, John Norman of Dallas.
