Funeral services for Zella Greenwood McGugan, 93, of Wills Point, Texas were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 7 at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Ken Hackney officiating. Interment followed at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas.
Born November 15, 1918 in Marietta, the daughter of Samuel David and Linnye Waren Balthrop Greenwood, she died Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in Dallas.
Mrs. McGugan was raised in Marietta and graduated from Greenville High School She married Carl Eugene McGugan, Jr. in Ardmore and later moved to Dallas where they raised their family. She was very talented as a tailor/fitter and was responsible for partnering with sales associates to satisfy customers’ expectations for fit, alterations, resizing and restyling of all retail merchandise for Neiman Marcus. Mrs. McGugan truly loved her job and had many loyal customers and friends. She and Carl began Chapel of the Lake Church in June of 1965 at the Tanglewood Marina. After she retired from Neiman Marcus in 1973, they moved to Wills Point to make their home and minister full-time to the followers at Chapel of the Lake Church. She wore many hats, including pastor’s wife, mother, mother-in-law, Brownie leader, gardener, painter, cook, canner, medical advisor, protector and traveler. She was all those things and more. Mrs. McGugan left Wills Point in 2009 when her health began to fail and moved to the Christian Care Center in Mesquite, Texas, where she made and enjoyed many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers and sister-in-law, Glyme Greenwood and Denzil Greenwood and his wife, Imogene and two sisters, Eloise Greenwood and Allene Greenwood.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jonne K. Jenkins and husband, Omer of College Station, Texas and Pat Locke and husband, Tom of Garland, Texas; grandchildren, Jeff Jenkins and wife, Laurel of Saginaw, Michigan, Mike Jenkins and wife, Katie of Memphis, Tennessee, Steve Locke and wife, Carol of Dallas, and Jo Anna Locke of Garland; five great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
