Spencer C. McGrath, 79, departed this world December 19, 2012. He was born October 4, 1933, in Long Beach, California to Allman & Ona Mae McGrath.

Spencer was a loving husband, father, grandfather, inventor and farmer. He always had a soft spot for fast cars. He earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and spent many years in the Pacific Northwest, California and Arizona inventing many things from cellulose insulation to energy efficient lighting, before moving to Guthrie, Oklahoma with his wife. They retired here after selling their business, Bright Side Lighting. He was a practical man who was happiest living out his final years with his wife on their farm where he enjoyed gardening and raising beefalo.

He is survived by his sister, Delma Shoell and husband, Junis of Utah, eight children, Kelley Skidgel and husband J.B of Guthrie, Kathryn Zerkus and husband Michael of Houston, Texas, sons Robert, Steven, David, Michael, and Jeffrey and daughter Laura, their spouses; fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was a friend to all that got to know him and made their world a much more colorful place. He will be deeply missed by those that loved him including dear friends, John Lamberton and Brian & Sandy Bothroyd.

Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, 2 grandchildren and his beautiful, loving wife of 27 years, Marjorie Ann.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 3, at Smith Memorial Chapel, Guthrie. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Logan County Aging Services. At the family's request, there will be no visitation.
