With sadness, the friends and neighbors of John “JJ” McGrath announce his passing on January 15, 2021 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 83. John was born in Westfield, Massachusetts and resided there until joining the U.S. Marines in 1954.
John later moved to Oklahoma where he earned a bachelors of science from Central State University (UCO) in Edmond. He was employed and retired from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and lived in the Edmond area where he made many friends at local restaurants and shops. John would like to thank the staff at Crest Foods for handling his emergency with grace and care, the emergency responders of Edmond, the staff and doctors at Mercy Heart Hospital, his friends and neighbors at Windrush Apartments, friend Mark Majors & family, and the staff at Bradford Village.
One nephew, William Gilmartin, survives John along with friends from “back East”.
He is preceded in death by his father, John, mother Sarah, and sister Priscilla.
He will miss all that he knew and made acquaintance with, and be missed in return.
In lieu of flowers, John would hope that you would do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness in his honor.
A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. All are welcome to attend and celebrate John’s life.
