Jimmy McDonald was born March 3, 1952 in Tulia, Texas to Carrie Inez and James Collins McDonald. He passed away February 24, 2017 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 21 days.
Jimmy grew up in Brownfield and Lamesa, Texas graduating from high school in Brownfield, Texas in 1970. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served on the U.S.S. Hancock during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Alameda, California. He was married to Sharon Lee Johnston at Lubbock, Texas on January 19, 1974 and they moved to California where they lived for the next 20 plus years. In January of 1975 he was honorably discharged and he and Sharon moved extensively throughout Texas where he found employment with several police departments. In the early 90s Jimmy started his career as a correctional officer in Brownfield and continued until they moved to New Mexico in 1997 where he became an investigator within the correctional facility in Estancia, New Mexico. In 2000 they moved to Sayre where Jimmy was the assistant chief of security. Throughout his career in corrections he was employed by CCA. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, playing in a classic rock and country music band and was a avid John Wayne and Elvis Presley fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Collins McDonald; step father, Frank Mabrey; brother, James Phillip McDonald, 2 sisters, Eloise Checke and Ann Sims.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; 3 children, James Robert McDonald, Paris, TX, Carrie Nevarez and husband, Clayton Ressier, Lubbock, TX, and Aubrey Steven McDonald, Sayre; 9 grandchildren, Kevin, Desmine, Cameron, Sebastian, Adrian, Eva, Megan, Katie, and Landon; his mother, Carrie Inez Mabrey, Violet Hills, AR; 3 sisters, Mamie Wright, Mona Talovic and Pam Schultz; 1 brother, John McDonald and a host of other relatives and friends.
