Vera H. (Thompson) McClelland
January 7, 1934 ~ November 21, 2009

  Vera H. McClelland, resident of Ponca City, passed Sunday, November 21, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 75 years of age.

Vera was born January 7, 1934 in rural Depew, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Thompson and Opal Wheeler Thompson. She attended the Depew Schools. She was married to Marvin McClelland in 1989 with the couple making their home in Marland, Oklahoma prior to moving to Ponca City in 2001. Vera was employed with Conoco in the mid 1980s. She was known as a kind hearted and compassionate person who was always helping others. She was a volunteer at various area nursing homes throughout the years and was always giving of herself and her time. She was a loving and loyal friend and possessed a beautiful sense of humor and was even known to be ornery at times. The special enjoyments in her life were her sons, her grandchildren and her sons small dog Sissy. In earlier years she and her husband traveled extensively throughout the United States. She also enjoyed Elvis Presley music, the outdoors, fishing, dancing and was known as an excellent cook.

She is survived by her two sons, Robert Robbie Rhoads and wife, DeeDee, of Tomball Texas and Ray Donaldson of Ponca City; three grandchildren, Tyler Lee Rhoads, Trista Rae Rhoads and RaLyssa Nicole Taylor; one brother, Carl Thompson of Blackwell, Oklahoma and one sister, Jewel Brewer of Bristow, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and friends that include Bonnie Wilkins and Carol Meador.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Ray Thompson, Ovie Thompson and Everett Thompson; five sisters, Ellen Tinsley, Louise Rice, Billie Mallow, Pauline Wright and Eva Mae Vandert.

A memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Frees of St. Lukes Church of the Nazarene presiding.
