Steven Dwayne McCarther, Sr. was born in Oklahoma City on Jan. 2, 1963 to Willard and Monica Rosita McCarther.
Steven was raised in Chickasha, by his grandmother, Edna Sargent. He attended Chickasha Public Schools, and graduated high school in 1981.
While in high school, Steven participated in varsity sports, baseball and basketball. Steven was a friendly person who possessed a gentle smile, and a friend to all he came in contact with. He was a special individual who had the ability to bring joy, happiness, and laughter to everyone around him.
Steven enjoyed participating in sports, and later in life, he enjoyed watching sports. He was very proficient at the card game of "Black-Jack".
Steven was employed by Goodyear.
After which, Steven united with Carrie Marable. The couple has been happily united for the past 12 years. Carrie remained by his side until the end.
Steven accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at New Hope Baptist Church in Chickasha, under Pastor Phea.
Steven was preceded in death by both parents, Harold Rogers, Sr. and Monica Rosita Downing; one son, Donte' on Jan. 17, 2012; one brother, Keith McCarther; Uncles: Gary Oliver, Everett Joe Diggs, Sr., Napoleon Diggs, Jr.; many other relatives: Eula Givens, Ernest Irby, Sr., Edna Irby, Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Mae Ella Irby, Napoleon Diggs, Sr. and many more.
Those left to cherish the precious memories of Steven are: his loving wife of 12 years, Carrie Marable-McCarther of Lawton; four sons, Steven Dwayne McCarther, Darius Colbert both of Oklahoma City, Rashad McCarther of San Diego, Calif., and Damon Russell-Galloway of NC. ;Stepchildren: Joseph Marable, Jr. and Katina Marable both of Lawton; His grandmother who raised him, Edna Sargent and her husband, Charles Gatewood of Chickasha; Father, Willard McCarther of Tulsa; Step father, Paul Downing of Lawton; six brothers: Richard McCarther, Brian McCarther, Kendall McCarther, Kim Rogers, Harold Rogers, Jr., and Troy Rogers; seven sisters: Tonya McCarther-Belton, Sherry Frierson, Cheryl Rogers, Paula Rogers, Chenita Rogers, Aretha Rogers, and Athena Rogers. Grandchildren include Rayshawn McCarther; twins, Devorionne and Devoriante McCarther, Ceaser McCarther, and Kimani McCarther of Oklahoma City; Travis McCarther and Christina McCarther of San Diego, Calif., step-grandchildren: Zamaria Marable , Zavier Marable, (special daughter) Zarius Marable, and Carrie Marable, numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends as well as a special fraternal brotherhood with the class of 1981.
