June 09, 1934 ~ November 07, 2019

Robert Louis McAlister, age 85 of Purcell, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home. He was born June 9, 1934 in Washington, OK, the only child of Lawson Corneillus McAlister and Bessie Lee (Waggoner) McAlister.

He was raised in Washington and attended Washington Schools, graduating with the Class of 1952. Louis then attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Geology. It was here he met Ellen “Jean” Garner, and they were married on December 21, 1956 in Stillwater. Together, they raised their only child, daughter Carol.

While at OSU, Louis was a member of the ROTC. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and served his country proudly. After his service, Louis returned back home to Oklahoma and began taking classes at the University of Oklahoma, later graduating with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences. Louis was a jack of all trades. He farmed a little and even plumbed. He worked mainly as a Public Health Inspector for the State of Oklahoma. Louis was very thorough with his work and his hobbies. He dabbled in photography and enjoyed making knives and he shared his talents with his family and friends. He greatly enjoyed carpentry and for many years, he shared this talent doing mission work as a member of the Union Builders.

Louis later married Sue (Calvert) Staggs, and they enjoyed companionship and time together. Louis was a man of great faith; a devoted family man and he will be dearly missed!

He was preceded in death by:

His wife, Jean McAlister and
His parents, Lawson and Bessie McAlister.

Louis is survived by:

His wife, Sue McAlister of Purcell;

Daughter, Carol Paden and Rick Over of Yukon;

4 grandchildren, John L. Paden of Bethany,

Zachary Paden and Tatiana Gillespie of OKC,

Katy Paden of Konowa and

Robert Paden of Stillwater;

1 great granddaughter, Arya and a host of other family and friends.
