Bertha Geraldine Matthews died March 5, 2018 at the age of 86 years 4 months 4 days. Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Springhill Free Will Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Schultz officiating. Services are entrusted to the care of Wadley's Funeral Service.
Bertha was born November 1, 1931 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Lloyd Yule and Della Elizabeth (Tyree) Green. She was raised and attended school in Detroit, Michigan. In 1951, she married Stanley Matthews in Arizona. Bertha worked as a sales clerk in the Stardust Hotel gift shop until her retirement in 1994. They moved to Lexington over 4 years ago from Phoenix, Arizona. Bertha was of the Baptist faith and a member of Springhill Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed senior jam sessions with her daughter Caroline. Shopping for clothing, jewelry, and shoes, which she has tons of. Bertha loved spending time with her family and friends, and enjoyed going to the Ranch and different trips with her husband, Stan in their RV.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Della (Tyree) Green; her husband, Stanley Matthews; son, Stanley T. Matthews; daughter, Della Conners; brother, Lloyd Green, Jr.; and sister, Della Phelps.
Survivors include her children, Caroline Stanfield, Samuel Matthews, Mark Matthews, Dennis Matthews, Marvin Matthews, Timothy Matthews; 17 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
