Buffalo man drowns in pond
By the Associated Press 12 September 1997
Authorities have recovered the body of a Buffalo man who drowned in a farm pond. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said the body of Antonio Mata, 45, of Buffalo was found in the pond about 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Searchers had looked for Mata's body since he disappeared late Friday. The patrol said Mata apparently had been trying to rope a calf from his horse and when the calf went into the water, the rope became tangled up with the horse and the rider. A search of the pond, located near Buffalo in Harper County, began when Mata's horse and personal effects were found nearby, the patrol said.
