U.S. Veteran Duane Arnold Mashke, son of Arthur A. and Myrtle (Albers) Mashke, was born August 7, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan. He departed this life March 5, 2009, in Westville, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 28 days.
Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a grounds keeper for Ft. Smith National Cemetery. He was a member of the Lutheran Church in Ft. Smith, the American Legion of Muskogee and VFW Post #35 and #1857 in Oklahoma City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Myrtle Mashke, an infant son, Markham Duane Mashke, a daughter, Barbara Joyce Gudgeon and one sister, Arelene Mashke.
He leaves to mourn his passing three sons, Bruce Mashke, of Adair, OK, James and Cynthia Mashke, of Kilgore, TX and Walter Mashke, of Gentry, AR; three daughters, Marie and Brad Thumber, of Morrow, AR, Sabrina and Leroy Daugherty, of Westville, OK, Doris and Claudie Vaughn, of Stilwell, OK; son-in-law, Barry Gudgeon, of Mountainburg, AR, 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; five brothers, David and Linda Mashke, Clarence Mashke, Douglas and Albea Mashke, Allen Mashke, Don and Mary Mashke and one sister, Doris Ann Chigld.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009, at Ft. Smith National Cemetery with Rev. Edward Cunningham officiating. Final arrangements were entrusted to Hart Funeral Home of Westville.
