A Mass of Christian Buriel for Emeteria Rivas Martinez, 72, of Purcell will be held today (Thursday), July 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church with Deacon John Warren officiating. Services will be under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Martinez died July 17, 2005 at Purcell Municipal Hospital.
She was born March 3, 1933 in Ignacio Zaragoza, Durango, Mexico, the oldest of eight children of Antonio Rivas Reyes and Aqueda Martinez Sequvia. She was reared and attended school in Ignacio Zaragoza. She had been in Purcell for two months visiting family.
Mrs. Martinez married Alfredo Luna Hernandez in April 1952 in Ignacio Zaragoza.
She worked as a homemaker and reared her nine children.
Mrs. Martinez was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and spent most of her life in Ignacio Zaragoza and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her father; her husband; three children, Salvador, Felipe and Carmela Luna and two brothers, Natividad and Erasmo Rivas Martinez.
Survivors include her mother, Agueda Martinez Sequvia of Mexico; six sons, Joe Luna Rivas and his wife, Enriqueta, and Uvaldo Luna Rivas and his wife, Azucena, all of Purcell, Alejandro Luna Rivas and his wife, Aurora, of Laredo, Texas, and Leonel Luna Rivas and his wife, Yolanda, Regino Pazz Rivas and his wife, Laura, and Saul Paez Rivas and his wife, Araceli, all of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico; two brothers, Martin Rivas Martinez and Lorenzo Rivas Martinez, both of Durango, Mexico; three sisters, Enedina Rivas Martinez and Rosa Maria Rivas Martinez, both of Durango, Mexico, and Catalina Rivas Martinez of Chiuhaua, Mexico; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
