Robert Calamus Martin was born on March 24, 1939, in Haskell, Oklahoma, to Pete Calamus and Iva Luree (Kirk) Martin. He departed this life on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at his home in Locust Grove, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.
Robert grew up and attended school in Oaks, Oklahoma. Over the years, he worked as a truck driver for several companies, including Hamil Trucking and Pryor Stone. Eventually, he always found his way back to what he loved—being self-employed as a welder.
A proud veteran, Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army. On March 7, 2002, he married Rebecca “Becky” Keener at the Locust Grove Free Will Baptist Church. Becky first met Robert while managing Denny’s in Locust Grove. He had come in and ordered an omelet that wasn’t on the menu—later dubbed “Robert’s Omelet”—which eventually made its way onto the menu.
Robert attended Blue Springs Church near Salina. He was a true fan of Westerns, especially those starring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood. While he enjoyed fishing, he rarely had the time to go. Instead, he spent his days outdoors, always keeping busy. He loved working with his horses and riding his tractor. Most of all, Robert cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He had a kind and caring heart, always good to Becky and to those around him. Becky recalls never seeing Robert angry, and he wasn’t one to talk about others. Those quiet strengths and gentle ways were part of what made him so special. He will be deeply missed.
Robert is survived by: his wife: Becky of the home; 5 children: Bob Martin and Renee’ of Grove, Oklahoma, Theron Martin and wife Cindy of Collinsville, Oklahoma, and Sheila Fisher and husband David of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Johnny Carlile and wife Cheryl of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Chasma Carlile and Shane Almendarez of Pryor, Oklahoma; 11 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Robert is preceded in death by: his parents; 3 sisters: Louise Evans, Melva Golightly, and Helen Wood; and His father and mother-in-law: John and Patsy Keener.
