Jimmie Martin Sr. age 86 of Oklahoma City, passed away on December 31, 2023. Jimmie Dale Martin was born on April 10, 1937 to William LaVern Martin and Pauline Savana Martin (Costner) in Bromide, Oklahoma. Jimmie grew up in the area until his family moved to Madill, where he graduated with the Wildcat Class of 1956. After high school, Jimmie joined the National Guard. He served for three years before joining the Navy. He then served for four years and was especially proud of his position as an air traffic controller.
Jimmie fell in love with a young lady from school, named Sarah Sue Finkle. They were married on February 9, 1961 in Madill, OK. For time they lived in Kingsville, TX where Jimmie was stationed, and then made their home in Houston, Shawnee, Del City, Oklahoma City, and finally Newcastle. Jimmie held numerous jobs over the years including carrying letters for the post office and working in sales. Later in life he worked in real estate and enjoyed hard earned success. Jimmie was a fun person to be around and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed bible studies, listening to classic country and gospel music, and learning about science and astronomy. Jimmie’s greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished time spent with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids- and loved sharing stories about his wife and daughter who went on before him. Jimmie leaves a legacy of love and will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Martin, and Pauline Harper. His wife Sara Sue Martin, and his daughter Shannon Lea Russell.
Jimmie is survived by his children, John Martin of Midwest City, Jimmie Martin and wife Kristin of Yukon, and Shelly Fisher and husband Carl of Cleveland, OK. His siblings Sammy Martin of Newcastle, and Billie Martin Williams of Oklahoma City, his eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 am Friday February 9, 2024 at Woodland Hills Baptist Church in Newcastle, OK.
