Dorothylene “Jo” (Hubbard) Martin

March 12, 1942 ~ October 9, 2014

Dorothylene “Jo” Martin, 72, of Scipio, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at her residence. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Scipio Community Center. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Jo was born March 12, 1942 in Celestine, Oklahoma to Preston Melvin “Shorty” and Helen Norma (Brannon) Hubbard. She was a lifelong resident of Pittsburg County.

She married Bill Martin on August 8, 1961 in Eufaula and they established their home in Scipio, Oklahoma.

Jo loved spending time with her mother, children and grandchildren. She was affectionately known as “Ma” to everyone she was acquainted with. Jo was a great cook and made the best fried taters around. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and tending to her chickens, turkeys, and guineas. Jo also loved anything Coca-Cola and had a fondness for Elvis and George Strait music. In addition, she had a stored knowledge of old country music artists and old western actors, not to mention a more recent enchantment with Court TV.

Jo had been ill for many years, but never complained of her pain. She will be greatly missed!

She is survived by her husband: Bill Martin of the home; children: Randy Martin and wife, Lorraine of Sam’s Point, Oklahoma, Mark Martin of Scipio, Misty Martin and Wayne Edwards of Scipio, Brent Martin and wife, Trista of New Waverly, Texas; grandchildren: Randi Martin, Holly Martin, Michael Martin, and Teona Martin.

Also, great-grandchildren: Elli Martin, Colton Offill, and Jenesis Offill; mother: Helen Hubbard of McAlester; siblings: Larry Hubbard and wife, Frankie of Crowder, Phyllis Martin of McAlester, Dennis Hubbard and wife, Dawn of Cushing; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Jo was preceded in death by her father: Preston Melvin Hubbard, a brother: Cloyd Melvin Hubbard, two sisters: Sharon Kay Hubbard and Brenda Helen Martin, her father-in-law: Ray Martin, and her mother-in-law: Hazel Martin.
