A visitation for Carl R. Marrs, age 76, of Enid, will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. The United States Navy will perform Military Honors. Services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Carl was born January 7, 1945, in Woodward, Oklahoma, to Dean and Rose (Elliott) Marrs, and passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at his home in Enid.
He graduated from Woodward High School in 1963, and immediately joined the Navy, where he served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Midway. After being discharged, he began his career with Sonic Drive In, starting out as a manager, and eventually becoming an owner of locations including Carlsbad, NM, Guymon, OK, and two locations in Enid. He married Janice Sweet on October 14, 1970, in Woodward, where they made their home. They had two children, Shelly and Jason. They moved to Enid in 1991 to be closer to family, and to open the first of their two Sonic locations. Carl had a passion for Corvettes and collected a few over the years.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Rose Marrs. He is survived by his children, Shelly Bencze and husband Brian, of Colorado Springs, CO; Jason Marrs and wife Karee, of Enid; five grandchildren, Kenzlie Schlein and husband Zac, of Baltimore, MD; Kassidy Whittier and husband Andrew, of Dracut, MA; Kamryn Bencze of Colorado Springs, CO; Savana and Grayson Marrs, of Enid; three great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Barrett, and Stella; brother, Will Marrs and wife Celia, of Houston, TX; sister, Norma Kemmet and husband Duane, of Plano, TX; and sister, Faye McCaw, of Bethany, OK; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
Memorial contributions in Carl's name may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
