Anthony James Marra II

Anthony James Marra II
October 30, 1932 ~ October 22, 2015

SFC Anthony James Marra II was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 30, 1932 to Anthony and Joyce (Mauldin) Marra.

As a young man, SFC Marra loved walking the streets of Kansas City and would even swim across the Missouri River.

His favorite childhood memory was breaking into a warehouse with a friend, only to discover it was full of stolen goods owned by the mafia.

In 1952, SFC Marra was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Sill.

He met his lovely wife, Beverly Faye Whitener, at a soda fountain in downtown Lawton. The pair married on June 5, 1954. The new couple were then transferred to Schweinfurt, Germany. After 2 years in Germany, the Marra's were transferred to Fort Benning, GA, and then on to Schofield Barracks in Honolulu, HI. After 3 years in Hawaii, they returned to Fort Sill, OK. In 1969, they were transferred to Grafenwoehr, Germany with their expanded family of five children: Anthony James III, Terry Lynn, Vincent Dean, Tammy Lou, and John Edgar. After 3 years in Germany, the family returned once again to Fort Sill, OK, where SFC Marra finished his career in Civil Service until his retirement in 1988.

SFC Marra's proudest accomplishment was being a soldier in the U.S. Army, and he was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal for his participation in the Vietnam War.

He made friends with everyone who passed through his life, had an incredible sense of humor, and loved to make people laugh.

He adored his wife, children, and grandchildren and was known as their beloved "Popo".

SFC Marra is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly F. Marra of Lawton, a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Terry English of Baton Rouge, LA, sons Anthony J. Marra III and Vincent D. Marra of Lawton, a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy L. and James Dickson of York, PA; 6 grandchildren: Chad Marra and his wife Heather, Christopher Newman, David Kerr, Kristen Marra, Jennifer Baggett, Maralyn Davis and her husband Terry, Amanda Wright and her husband Jeremy, and Alyssa Marra; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John E. Marra, a daughter, Terry L. Marsh, and a grandson, David M. Gutierrez.
