John W. "Bud" Marley, Jr., 74, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013, in Oklahoma City. Bud was born December 12, 1938 in Larned, Kansas to John Walter Marley and Ethel Schultz Marley. He graduated from Larned High School and later attended Ottawa and Cameron Universities.
Bud spent over 45 years designing and building construction projects throughout the southwest. He worked the first half of his career with his brothers as a principal in Aztec Building Systems. The second half of his career was spent working with his children in construction and development. His entrepreneurial activities included bringing Denny's to Norman in 1991 as the managing general partner. His civic involvement included years of coaching little league soccer and softball. Bud was a founding member of the Cross Timbers Rotary Club, later serving as its president.
An avid fan of OU sports, Bud enjoyed them primarily with family. But even these games lost out when they competed with a granddaughters' soccer game or school program. He cherished family above all else.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lois Strait.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia whom he married in 1964; son, Tim and his wife April and their daughters Elizabeth and Victoria; daughter, Kelly Wilcox and her husband Eric and their daughter Ella; son Michael; brother, Wayne and his wife Carol; brother, Bill and his wife Joyce; brother-in-law Gerald Bentley and wife Deannie; brother-in-law Richard Strait and wife Sharon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Contributions in Bud's memory may be made to Dean McGee Eye Institute Foundation, 608 Stanton L. Young Blvd, Suite 346, OKC, OK, 73104 or www.mei.org/donate-now.
