Beloved Father, "Pappy" and Friend
Lawrence "Vernal" Marlett passed away peacefully at his home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, on July 2, 2017, at the age of 76.
He was born on March 22, 1941 in Larned, Kansas, to Lawrence "Mick" and Alma Maxine Marlett. Throughout his lifetime, Vernal lived in Kansas, Oregon, and Missouri until retirement. He finally settled in Ponca City, Oklahoma to be closer to his family and his life-long childhood friend, Dale Randall.
He enjoyed several careers including working in the Martlette Mobile Home Factory in Oregon, managing the A&W Restaurant in Great Bend, Kansas, working as owner/operator of Marlett Dairy Distribution in Ulysses, Kansas, and finally retiring from Mike Hagen Electric in Kansas City, MO. He pursued many hobbies including flying, motorcycle riding, golfing, watching western movies, telling amazing stories, and watching his great-grandsons play sports.
Vernal was preceded in death by his parents, Mick and Alma Marlett, his brother, Raymond Dean Marlett, and his grandson, Cody Wayne Bryant.
Survivors include one sister, Karen Hall of Larned, KS; two daughters, Kimmie Bright of Ponca City, OK, and Sandy (Douglas) Bauer of Smithville, MO; two grandchildren, Laci (Jeramy) Head of Ponca City, OK, and Rook Bauer of Smithville, MO; and two great-grandsons, Braydn and Rowan Head of Ponca City, OK.

A graveside memorial ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Browns Grove Cemetery in Burdett Kansas. Following the ceremony, friends and family are welcome to share a meal and stories at J.A. Haas Building in Larned, Kansas.
