Loy E. Marler

Aug. 16, 1924 ~ Sept. 15, 2006

Loy E. Marler has gone to fish with Jesus. The big one will never get away again!

Loy was born Aug. 16, 1924, in Salina, OK to Jess and Emma (Maynard) Marler. He left us Sept. 15, 2006, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center following a period of ill health. A celebration of life will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church, 614 N. Garland Road in Enid with Rev. David Conrad and Rev. Wayne Bland officiating. Fellowship and visitation with the family will be at the church immediately following the service. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

His family moved to Enid when he was four years old. During his time in Enid and the surrounding area, he farmed, worked at Pillsbury Mills and H.A. Marr. He then worked at Vance Air Force Base retiring after 30 years.

Loy served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 in the European Theatre during WW II. He was an anti-aircraft artillery gunner with Battery B 554 AAA AW Battalion. As a veteran, Loy will be honored and escorted by the Patriot Guard Riders.

On March 13, 1946 he married the love of his life, Anna Mae Estes. They celebrated their 60th Anniversary this year.

He loved hearing his dogs run coyotes, but his greatest passion was fishing. The Lord is now hearing about the big ones that did get away. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and pitch. He also spent many evenings entertaining his family and friends playing his harmonicas. Anyone that knew Loy will remember him as a great joke-teller. He always had a new one to share.

Loy is survived by his wife, Anna Mae, of the home; Daughters, Denise Graham and husband Tim and Lezlie Gilbert and husband Gil, all of Enid; seven grandchildren, Milinda Lowe and husband Steve of Palm Springs, CA, Micah Emmerson and wife Stephanie, Marshfield, MO, Bradley Gilbert of Alva, Jesse Emmerson, Aranda Emmerson and Danny Gulick, Christopher and Shawna Gilbert of Enid; son-in-law, Don Newell and wife Dee of Las Vegas, NV; six great-grandchildren, Stephanie Lowe of Grand Terrace, CA; Desiree and Amber Gulick of Fairview; Blaine Gulick of Enid; Eli Emmerson of Marshfield, MO, Maecee Staton of Cedar Hills, TX; two sisters, Goldie Hood and husband Charles of Silver City, NM, and Martha Williams of Enid.

Some of his many greeters at heaven's gates were his daughter Peggy Ann Newell and his sisters, Alpha Bell and Alcie Allen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to New Hope United Methodist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
