Paul Markus, 61, of Fairfax, Oklahoma went home to join the Lord in heaven on January 9, 2024, at 4:16 a.m. He put up a hard fight, but he was a fighter.
He is preceded in death by his father Alfred Markus, his mother Donna Markus, both of Dodge City, KS and his sister Barbara Huffman of Naukati Bay, AK. He has two brothers still living, John Markus and Steve Markus both of Hutchison, KS plus numerous nieces and nephews in KS.
Paul was born and raised in Dodge City, KS by very loving parents. He went to school and finished 12th grade at Dodge City High. In 1977 Paul and Virginia met and were married on May 9, 1980, at Cimmaron, KS.
Always a hard worker, he first went to work for Behees UPH and learned that trade and was a perfectionist about it. He would tear it apart if he didn’t like it until it was done right.
He was employed at B.J.M. manufacturing alongside his dad where they made cattle feeders. He enjoyed collaborating with his father on the family farm outside of Ford, KS where he spent countless hours after work together. He also would help his older brother when he needed help working and doctoring cattle. He also did a lot of work in the oil field and in his younger years was also employed with D & P Tank.
The couple had six children who grew into an even bigger family: Jessica Page & husband of Protection, KS. & children Harley & Ben; Lillian Valentine & Jessi of Ponca City & children Brian, Brittany, Marilyn, Nicole, Matthew & Jessica; Kyla Minix of Earls Boro, OK & children Tory & Colton; Barbara Dodson & children Jami of Bartlesville, Julie Bug of Grove, Drevon and Asher both of MT; Paul Markus Jr. “P.J.” & Billie & their children Cathyrn, Triston, Gage, Joshua all of Fairfax; and Vance Markus of Stillwater. Additionally, grandchild Christopher of Dodge City, great-grandchildren Mykayla “Mickey”, Harper, Ashlynn, Luna, Adylynn, Jackie, Lucas, Hazel, and Toby all of Pawhuska, Meadow of Bartlesville, Remedy, Nate and Luke all of Fairfax.
In his spare time, he loved to take the children and grandchildren to carnivals, to game rooms, and roller skating, but his favorite things were fishing and camping. He also taught some of them to play chess, one of the grandsons Brian Huffman even won 2nd place in a tournament in Bartlesville when he was only 9 years old. He loved to be with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pa Pa doodle as the great-grandchildren called him loved each one of you dearly with all his heart. Just know he is up there with his Lord and watching and looking down over each one of you. There was never a dull moment when he was around, he liked to make people laugh, maybe some people out there did not know but he had a funny streak about him.
Paul’s family would like to thank everyone who at one time or another showed him kindness, friendship, appreciation, and respect. Especially Dr. Graham, Dr. Tom and the many doctors and fine nurses at the Fairfax Hospital. He was a caring, loving and hard-working husband and father. We all will miss him dearly.
