Todd W. Markum, born in Clinton, Oklahoma on December 15, 1938, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020.
Todd grew up in Clinton as the middle son of Charles and Marie Markum with his brothers Neil and Alan. Todd loved his youth and often told stories about his adventures with friends and family in Western Oklahoma. Todd was a proud former offensive lineman for the Red Tornadoes and graduated from Clinton High School in 1957.
After High School, Todd joined the Army Reserve for six months and worked for ACME Brick Company to prepare for college expenses. Todd attended the University of Oklahoma majoring in Economics. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. After graduation, Todd completed law school at OU where he met many lifelong friends.
Todd served as an Assistant Attorney General under Larry Derryberry in the mid-1970s. He then went into private practice where he served his clients with great virtue and diligence for over fifty years. A District Judge commented about Todd, “As a lawyer he was a zealous and ethical advocate for his clients. Judges were always pleased to have him appear in their court.”
Todd was a life-long learner and avid reader. He especially enjoyed World, American and Oklahoma history.
Todd was the spiritual leader of his household and treated his family and friends with great kindness and love. He loved “little people,” especially his grandchildren. He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Nancy, as they celebrated fifty years of marriage this past March. He raised three children, stepsons Brad Graham and Stuart Graham, and daughter Amy Reid. He spent many days and nights watching their games, practices, concerts, shows and events. He always supported his children with love and encouragement. As the years passed, he did the same with his grandchildren. A favorite time with family was going back each fall to Norman and cheering on the Sooners. He was a season ticket holder for “Sooner Football” for over fifty years. Todd and Nancy have been active members of several church families over the years, including Mayfair Church of Christ, North MacArthur Church of Christ, where Todd served as Deacon, and for the past 13 years, the Memorial Road Church of Christ.
Todd is survived by his wife Nancy of Edmond, stepson Brad Graham and wife Shelley of Argyle, Texas, stepson Stuart Graham and wife Darsi of Edmond, and daughter Amy Reid and husband Robert of Edmond. Todd is also survived by seven grandchildren: Garrett Graham, Owen Graham, Jack Graham, Sydney Graham, Maddox Graham, Ben Reid and Chloe Reid.
Family will be greeting friends from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, June 14th at Matthews Funeral Home. Memorial services will be conducted at Memorial Road Church of Christ at 11 am, on Monday June 15.
