Joseph Lee Mariner
April 19, 1930 ~ 2015

Celebration of Life memorial service for Joseph Lee Mariner, 85, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, 2015, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel.

Joe was born in Gage, Okla., on April 19, 1930, to Paul and Odrie Alice ( Reynolds) Mariner.

Joe graduated from Garber High School in 1948, and later attended Oklahoma State University.

Joe began his career as an auto mechanic, spending many years with Bond Bakery, before accepting a position at Autry Vocational Technology Center as an auto mechanics instructor, where he taught for 17 years.

Joe was a veteran and proud of his military service in Korea. He served with the 366th Engineer Aviation Battalion of the U.S. Army and later continued service in the Army Reserves. He remained an active member of the American Legion and VFW his whole life.

Joe was constantly on the move and never slowed down. He was a proud OSU Cowboy fan, was a member of the American Antique Car Club of Enid, and Garfield County Retired Educators.

His hobbies were numerous as were his friends. He met with friends weekly for coffee and lunch and enjoyed people wherever he went. Joe lived life to the fullest, active until his last day with us.

In 1955, Joe married Ida Fay Rentfrow. To this marriage were born two children, Melinda and Michael Mariner. In 1982, Joe married Waunita Fay (Nusz) Kopf. They were married for 28 years until her passing in 2010.

Joe is survived by his sister, Pauline Lowe of Enid; his children, Melinda and Steve Casteel of Stillwater, and Michael Mariner of Merritt Island, Fla.; grandsons, Jacob Casteel of Oklahoma City, and Joseph Zac Casteel of Stillwater; nephew, Larry Lowe and Debbie Boyle of Breckinridge; great-niece, Jinna Mae (Lowe) and Garrett McCown of Fairmont; stepsons, Ronnie and Debbie Kopf of Skiatook, and Gene and Maureen Kopf of Virginia; and many other precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as cousins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Wounded Warriors in care of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.
