Tommy was born on August 10, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois to Dale Preston Magruder and Doris Mae (Gardner) Magruder. He was the only son of eleven children. He had five older sisters and five younger sisters. He married Mary Alice Leonard on May 13, 1970 in Gainesville, Texas and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2007. Tommy worked in the oilfield for most of his working career. He was also a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Butcher Pen Fire Department. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents.
Thomas Magruder was a very special man. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back. He loved to pull jokes on you or tell you a good one and could always put a smile on your face. He was a kind and loving man, and loved each one of his sons in his own way. Tommy loved his grandchildren and loved to play with his great-grandbabies. His eyes would light up as he told the stories of when they came by to see him. This man has truly touched each person in this room in his own way. Most of the time there would be a bunch of good stories and memories with that. Tommy will truly be missed.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Magruder and wife Babette of Tishomingo, Chris Magruder and wife Doni of Connerville and Jeremy Magruder and wife Amelia of Butcher Pen; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; his special friend, Jacqueline Townsend; and other relatives.
