Robert (Bob) Dwight Magarian, 55, passed away in his home in Norman on Monday, August 07, 2017.

He was born July 6, 1962 in Oxford, MS to Robert A. and Charmaine Magarian. He spent his formative years in St. Louis and came to Norman with his parents in 1970 when he was 8 years old, went through the Norman school system and graduated from Norman High in l980 and attended OU where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

He worked at Westwood Golf Course, OU, Office Max, M&M Mars, and last, but best of all, worked with his wife as her office manager in their counseling service. He was a faithful servant of Christ and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church where he was baptized, served as teacher, choir member, and greeter.

Bob is most known for his love of golf, OU sports, and politics. As a teenager Bob worked at Westwood Golf Course and later became an assistant golf pro. He was most proud of being one of the founders, along with his family, of The Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner, which had its inception in December 1987.

Bob is survived by his lovely wife Angela Magarian of the home; mother-in-law, Mary Peterson of Norman; his parents, Dr. Robert A. and Charmaine Magarian of Norman; sister, Paula Magarian of Norman; sister, Cindy Weisberg and husband Scott of Owasso; sister, Leslie Holtzclaw and husband Kris of Santa Clarita, CA; niece, Natalie Stephens and grandniece, Blakely Ann Stephens of Norman; uncle Ed and aunt Sandy Magarian of West Fargo, ND; uncle Tony and aunt Jeanie Ortiz of East St. Louis, IL; uncle Bobby Kugler and wife Sharon of Granite City, IL; Cousins – Melanie Lodes and husband Dan of St. Louis, Julie Goddard and husband Stan of St. Louis; Gary Apoian and wife Linda of Chesterfield, MO; Lupe Waldrup and husband Scott of Mascoutah, IL; Tony Ortiz, Jr of Cahokia, IL; Tina Smith and husband Kenny of Cahokia, IL; Theresa Merritt and husband Charlie of Cahokia, IL; Edward B. Magarian and wife Donna of Minneapolis, MN; Kevin Magarian and wife Mary of West Fargo, ND; Tim Magarian and wife Tracie of Sartell, MN; Angela’s brother Chris Peterson and wife Tonya and son Tyler, and son Christoffer Harrell of Ft. Smith, AR; family, Mike Bell and wife Cathy of Ft. Smith, AR. Our family always has been about loving one another including: David Blanton and his wife, Megan and son Owen of Oklahoma City; David Roberts and wife Renee and son Keiler of St. Louis, MO; Lisa Rusch and daughters Sydney and Isabella Roberts of Ft. Collins, CO; Chuck Freude and wife Hong and Twit; Lexi and her sister Spencer Weisberg. Bob shared a great love with his cats Baxter and Webster who are lost without him.

The family will be present to receive friends and family on Thursday, August 10 between 5 pm and 8 pm at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11 at 11:00 am at Bethel Baptist Church at 1717 W. Lindsey Street in the main auditorium.

Memorials can be made in lieu of flowers in the memory of Bob Magarian to the Norman Christmas Day Community Dinner in care of Robert A. Magarian, 311 N. Mercedes Dr. Norman, OK 73069
