John A. Luton

John A. Luton
July 8, 1941 ~ February 15, 2018

John A. Luton passed away at home on February 15, 2018, at the age of 76. John was born July 8, 1941 to Frank and Billie Luton, in Monroe, Louisiana. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Kulcke Luton, on June 1, 1962, and they had two daughters.

John's career took him and his family to Texas, West Virginia, Louisiana and Oklahoma, and he made lasting impressions and friendships in all the communities in which he lived. John and Phyllis settled in Ponca City in 1992. John retired from Continental Carbon as a plant manager in 2004, after a long and productive career in the industry. He is remembered as a strong leader and mentor to many. John and Phyllis were longtime members of Northeast Baptist Church where John was a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. He will be greatly missed by those loved and admired him.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, "Buddy" Luton. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Phyllis Luton; his daughter Kelley Marie Knizner and husband Paul of Bridgeville, PA; Meredith Lowe Gatzemeyer and husband Tyler of Claremore, OK; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Aver of Goleta, CA, and Jody Reppond of Rolla, MO; and his beloved canine companion, Gabrielle.

John will be remembered as an intelligent and strong man that provided leadership in all aspects of his life, from his family and work, to his spiritual responsibilities. John firmly believed in living his salvation, and he touched many lives and led many to our Lord through his teaching and humility. John was a loving and committed husband, caring for Phyllis until his final moments. His daughters were blessed to be raised by a man that embodied true and unconditional love, and his grandchildren admired his humor and generosity. There will never be another man like John, and although our hearts are hurting, we rejoice in his healing through our Lord Jesus Christ. We loved him a lot, but God loved him more.

My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going. John 14:2-4 NIV

Jesus answered him "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43 NIV

John requested there be no service in his honor. Donations can be made in his memory to Northeast Baptist Church, 2200 N. Pecan Road, Ponca City, OK 74604.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City.
