June 29, 1922 ~ January 6, 2019

Sylvia Lumm, 96, of Charles City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Shell Rock Care Center in Shell Rock.

A funeral service for Sylvia Lumm will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Jim Beranek from Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday.

Sylvia Alvina (Kramer) Lumm, the daughter of Peter and Verbena (Schrick) Kramer, was born June 29, 1922, in Butler County, Iowa. She attended country school in Butler County at the Jefferson Schools.

On December 2, 1941, Sylvia was united in marriage to Jesse Lumm in Shell Rock. The couple made their home in the Charles City area where they raised their family of five children.

Sylvia worked as a babysitter and at JCPenney for 26 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church (serving on the church circle), Pythian Sisters (serving as Grand Chief for the state of Iowa) and a member of the sewing group the Happy Hour Club. Sylvia enjoyed crafts, cooking, sewing, gardening, flowers and playing cards (especially 500). She had the love of her entire family and was the rock that all family members came to for advice and support.

Living family members include her five children: Mary Lou (David) Birkholz of Waverly, Larry (Carolyn) Lumm of Cedar Rapids, Judy (Paul) Ewald of Charles City, Pat (Dennis) Frascht of Alva, Oklahoma, and Dennis (Autumn) Lumm of Phoenix, Arizona; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Reiher; four brothers: Melvin, David, Treno and Paul Kramer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jesse in 2003; grandson, Andrew Ewald; and three brothers: Pete, Donald and Vern Kramer.
