Gus, 74, was born to Holmes R. and Onie Bell Maxwell Lucas in Tishomingo, OK on July 26, 1939. He graduated from Tishomingo High School in 1958.
He readily joined the Navy soon after and honorably served for a number of years. During this time he met and married Carole Elizabeth Robertson on June 25, 1961. They were married for 46 years until her passing and raised five children. The family moved to Norman, so Gus could attend the University of Oklahoma to study mechanical engineering. He spent the majority of his work career maintaining aircraft at Tinker Air Force Base. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and for instilling the value of hard work and dependability in his children. Gus loved fishing, working in the yard, and in the last few years could often be found chatting with his neighbors or reading his Bible.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, carol; his sons, Michael and Daniel; and his sisters, Shelby and Kathryn.
He is survived by his son, Tim and wife Sara of Texas; his daughters, Kathy and husband Ron of Wisconsin, Becky of Oklahoma, and Patty of Texas; his sister, Ruth Ann Riley; and ten grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Wildwood Community Church, 1501 24th Avenue NE in Norman, OK on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
