Earl Lee Lovell

Earl Lee Lovell
July 18, 1932 ~ October 24, 2020

Earl Lee Lovell passed away Saturday evening Oct. 24, 2020, at the age of 88. Lee is survived by his wife of 28 years, Paula; his daughters Elyse Lovell and partner John Garic of Whitehall, Mont., and Whitney Keye and husband Andy of Dallas, Texas; and stepchildren: Curtis Howard and wife Trecca of Enid, Okla., Brett Howard and wife Wendy of Tucson, Ariz.

Lee was the loving "Gramps" to: Courtney Gordon, Lindsey Weeks, Brock Howard, Madison Shiplett and husband Nicholas, Charles, Sophia and Katey Howard; and, he was "Great Gramps" to Rowan Shiplett.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Sandra Lovell, of Plymouth, Ill., who was married to his late brother, Wayne, and will also be missed by their loving children.

Lee was born in Plymouth, Ill., to Earl Lee Sr. and Thelma Lovell, where he grew up and graduated from Plymouth High School. He went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.

After separating from the Army, Lee went to work in the oil and water drilling industry, which took him to around 120 countries, including three relocation assignments to Lebanon, The Netherlands and Puerto Rico, as well as national roles based in Oklahoma, California and Arizona. Some of his sales trips were austere, exotic and quite often dangerous, and Lee had so many stories from each, which he loved to share.

When not traveling, Lee was a family man, an avid reader, an enthusiastic fan of U of A sports, and a champion pheasant and quail hunter as a proud member of the Grand National Quail Club.

Lee and Paula retired from their careers and moved to Tucson from Enid, Okla., in 2003. During his retirement he was a member of Romeos, a Far Horizons volunteer for many events for which he was a loved celebrity.

Lee was the most patient, humorous, generous, kind-hearted and the perfect gentleman beloved by anyone who met him. He was deeply loved by all his family and will be sadly missed by all his global family and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held for Lee at 1 p.m. (MST), Monday Nov. 2, 2020. It will be broadcast live at www.http://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/39434 for those who would like to view the memorial remotely. A copy of the video and slideshow will be placed at www.andykeye-whitney.smugmug.com/LeeLovell/.

Lee's remains will be placed at Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Marana at a later date.
