A Celebration of Life Service for Billie Dolores Bullard Lovell will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday June 13, 2020 at First United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. P. J. Stewart. Cremation arrangements are by Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Billie was born on her grandparents' farm outside of Garber on April 11, 1930 and passed to her reward in Heaven Monday June 1, 2020 at her home with her husband and loving family by her side.
Billie's early years were spent growing up on the farm outside of Garber. She was a true country girl who loved to spend her days outdoors and learned the fine points of fishing with a cane pole, a skill she would pass along to her three sons years later.
With the outbreak of WWII her father went to work at the Army Air Base in Enid. The family moved to Waukomis where she attended high school. It was while in high school that she agreed to go on a double-blind date. This was when she met a young soldier back from the war. When Bob Lovell walked in the room and saw Dolores, he told his friend, "That girl is mine!" They were married on June 13, 1948 and for the next seventy-one years they would travel life together.
After the wedding she moved to Tulsa with Bob where he was attending law school. After graduation from law school Bob took a job at Farmers and Merchants National Bank in Hennessey and he and Dolores made their home there. She remained a resident of Hennessey for the next sixty-eight years until the time of her death.
Dolores and Bob raised three boys in Hennessey. She worked as a nurse's aide at Kingfisher Hospital for a few years. Once John their youngest son was out of grade school, she attended Phillips University to obtain her BS degree in education. Following graduation, she taught English, Speech, and drama for twenty years at Dover and Waukomis schools. Her students were inspired by enthusiasm and devotion. After becoming adults many of them expressed their thanks to her dedication and the impact she had on their lives.
Dolores was an excellent seamstress and cook and was an avid reader, reading several books a week. She loved her travels with Bob and enjoyed trips to many destinations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Australia; however, it was the time she spent with family and friends that brought her the most joy. Her family will always remember and be influenced by her great love and guidance.
Dolores is survived by her husband Bob of the home, one brother John Bullard (Marian); one sister Lois Gose; three sons Don "Rusty" Lovell, Bill Lovell (Patty), John Lovell (Geneva), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hennessey Public Library or Hospice Circle of Love with the funeral home serving as custodian.
