July 4, 1931 ~ July 7, 2014

Funeral services for Max Stewart Long will be held Friday July 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Canton Christian Church with the Rev. Steve Driskoll officiating.

Max Stewart Long, age 83, of Enid, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord on July 7, 2014. Max is survived by his wife, Verla Long, children, Ken Laye (wife Mitzi) of Weatherford Texas, Linda Taylor (husband Jeff) of Enid, Oklahoma, Tammy Qualls (husband Steve) of Austin, Texas and Tim Long (wife Julie) of Owasso, Oklahoma, sister, Juanita Westfahl of Okeene, and brother Keith Long (wife Judy) of Canton and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Max was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Beulah Long, his brother Cletus Long, and three grandsons.

Max was born in Longdale, Oklahoma on July 4, 1931. After graduating from Canton High School, Max served in the US Navy aboard the William S Wood during the Korean War. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, Max married Verla Berniece Dickey Long, the love of his life, on August 24, 1957. Max attended Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma, graduating in 1959 with a BS degree in Business Administration and began his career with Groendyke Transport in Enid.

Max moved his family to Pampa, Texas in 1968, where he worked for Celanese Chemical Corporation for more than 20 years. Max and Verla retired to Cleo Springs, Oklahoma in 1994 where they lived until March, 2013 when they moved to Enid. Max enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, being out on his farm (the �80�) and spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. Max was a wonderful, caring man who will be missed by all who knew him.
