Long-time resident of Ada and McAlester, Alba Cleta Little, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at a local nursing home.
She was born at home in the small farming community of Ulan in 1926, the youngest of three siblings. Her parents: Alma and Presley Jones, founded the community in the early 1900s, traveling to Oklahoma from Mississippi by wagon. Her father was a farmer and teacher in the one-room school house, which also served as a church for traveling evangelists. Her mother opened and ran the post office in their general store, also tending to her older brother and sister while minding the garden and livestock.
Alba married Bob Huddleston, Jr. in April before graduating in May 1943; and was the salutatorian of her Indianola high school class. She reared three children in McAlester and Ada, and was a homemaker for 17 years until the marriage ended.
She worked for a utility company and the Department of Human Services as a social worker. A woman of faith, she was very active in the Ada and First Baptist Churches, teaching, directing Sunday school departments, and participating in weekly community visitation.
An avid reader, she held book club meetings in her home. She was known for her baking skills and shared those efforts with family and friends.
She was a member of her local Kiwanis Club, serving as president; Beta Sigma Phi, (a social sorority); and the Daughters of the American Revolution, holding local and state offices. After her children were grown, she married Herbert Little and once again was able to do what she loved best - be a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughters: Carolyn Hathcote and Tom of McAlester, Margaret Morris and Larry of Norman; grandchildren: Stacey Morris of Oklahoma City, Scott Morris and Nicole of Norman, Travis Hathcote of Guymon, Aaron Huddleston and Cassie of Ada, and Lauren West and Brent of Ada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Beatrice Ashmore and Leslie Paul Jones, her husband: Herbert Little, and son: Edwin Huddleston.
