Betty Jean Lindsey, 87, of Norman, Oklahoma died Sunday morning, May 24, 2015, at Grace Living Center in Norman. Memorial services will be at 11:00am Saturday at Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
Mrs. Lindsey was born November 12, 1927 in Skiatook, OK, the only child and daughter of William and Dema Loretta (Mayabb) Brown. She married Dale Zirkle Lindsey in Loami, Illinois, in 1950, and had her only son Steven William Lindsey in 1959.
As a young child Betty grew up around the oil fields of Seminole, Oklahoma and overseas to Hungry (Europe) before WWII, then returned to Altamont, Illinois in the late 1930's. She graduated from Altamont High School in 1947 with several HS friends still living; then went on to work in Kansas City, MO and Springfield, IL where she met Dale and married in 1950. Her family later moved to Arizona and California in 1963. Following Dale's death in 1964 she spent several years in CA and IL as a working single mother. In her early 50's she traveled to attend the Nanny Academy of Chicago, IL. Following her graduation, she worked full time as a Professional Nanny for several families in the northern Indiana and Illinois areas until her mid 70's when she retired and moved back to Oklahoma in 2005. She continued to volunteer her time at the hospital and work as a tenant representative at the Rose Rock Villa Apartments where she lived. Betty was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Norman
Surviving is son Steven W. Lindsey, daughter-in-law Janice M. (Faulk) Lindsey; grandchildren Gregory D. Lindsey and Stephanie L. (Lindsey) Gerrald; step-grandchildern April D. Ayers, Ronald "Scott" Parkhurst, and Patricia "Trish" M. Shiever; great-grandchildren Ryder T. Gerrald and Rayden S. Gerrald; step-great-grandchildren Kayelee M. Ayers, Benjamin P. Ayers, Blake H. Parkhurst, Luke H. Parkhurst, Nickolas R. Shiever, and Kyle S. Shiever.
