Thelma Mae (Allen) Linderer

Thelma Mae (Allen) Linderer
Oct. 6, 1924 ~ May 8, 2015

Thelma Mae Allen Linderer, 90, died Friday, May 8, 2015, in Tulsa, Okla., surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be 6 p.m. today, May 12, 2015, at Clarehouse in Tulsa.

Thelma was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Beaumont, Kan., to Clive "Mike" and Thelma Allen.

She grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1942.

At age 13, she met Howard Ado Linderer. The couple married in 1943, while he was on leave after Army Air Corps flight training school.

Howard flew combat missions in the European Theater as a pilot of the P-51 Mustang. Thelma endured an agonizing 10 months while her husband was held as a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft III in Germany, after being shot down near Versailles, France. He was liberated in June 1945, and honorably discharged. During this time, Thelma worked as a supervisor for Bell Telephone in Enid.

Howard began a long career with Frisco Railroad. The couple moved 18 times in support of Howards work with Frisco, eventually living in Oklahoma City, where they remained for 30 years.

Thelma loved traveling on the railroad and attending formal functions as a railroad executives wife.

Thelma loved, most of all, her grandchildren. Thelma described herself as their nutty Grandma because she was nuts about them. She was a generous spirit that loved caring for family and friends, especially feeding them her baking skills were legendary.

Full of life, Thelma loved talking and shopping. She had a knack for making instant friends with strangers within moments of meeting them.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; brother, William Allen; son, Michael Linderer; and grandson, Ryan Linderer.

She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Fisher and husband Dennis Fisher, and their children, Kelsey, David and Tanner Fisher, all of Sand Springs. Thelma also is survived by daughter-in-law, Susan Pirtle Linderer and her daughter Alyssa Linderer, both of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Hollie McIntosh-Linderer of Edmond; Paula Burdette, of Arlington, Va., whom she always considered as her daughter; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Thelma be remembered through gifts to Clarehouse, 7617 S. Mingo, Tulsa, OK 74133.
