William Jackson Lewis Jr. (known simply as “Bill”), was born on June 29, 1940 in Sedan, Kansas to William Jackson Lewis Sr. and Modena (Adams) Lewis. He departed this life on Sunday, March 17, 2019 in Springdale, Arkansas at 78 years of age.
Bill was well known and liked in Westville and the surrounding communities. He served in the Army during the late 50s as a military policeman. Bill was proud of his service to our country. He served on numerous boards and committees, such as the Westville Community Improvement Club (Chairman), Board to obtain medical facility and staff (Chairman), Park Committee, Pool Committee, Local Red Cross Chapter, Eastern Oklahoma Development District, City Carnival Organization, helped obtain original ambulance service and the Adair County Jail Committee.
Bill was a member of the Westville Masonic Lodge, The Lions Club and The Jaycees.
He became CLEET Certified and worked/volunteered on the Civil Defense Team and as a reserve law officer for the City of Westville and Adair County. Bill was also a volunteer on the Westville Fire Department and served as armed security at Westville Public Schools.
For over 32 years, Bill was an insurance agent. While in the insurance business, he made many lasting friendships and enjoyed visiting with his clients and friends. His presence in the community will be missed.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents: William Lewis Sr. and Modena Lewis and a brother, Edward Lewis.
Those remaining to keep his memory alive include his wife: Barbara (Rose) Lewis of the
home in Westville, Justin Lewis and wife Janee Lewis of Howe, Troy Allen Lewis of Greenwood, Ark., grandchildren: Brandon Lewis and wife Robin of Ft. Smith, Ark., Jessica Lewis of Van Buren, Ark., great-grandchildren: Brayden Lewis and Dani Lewis of San Antonio, Texas, Ransom Lewis of Ft. Smith, step-children: Carl Rose of Salina, Rachel Rose of Westville, great-grandchildren: Avangalene Helt of Westville and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Roberts & Hart Chapel, Westville, with Bro. Jim Beavers officiating.
