Deann (Owen) Lewis

Deann (Owen) Lewis
June 16, 1952 ~ October 12, 2020

Deann Owen Lewis passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on October 12, 2020 surrounded by loved ones.

Deann was born June 19, 1952 in Stillwater, Oklahoma to Charles Anderson Owen and Bobbie Nell (Watkins) Owen.

Deann grew up in Crescent and attended school there from 1st grade until her graduation in 1970. She worked throughout her youth at the former Crescent paper, the Logan County News, becoming the last "Printer's Devil" when they closed the paper . She was always fond of her little hometown, always active in the community, including the years she lived elsewhere. She was a former president of the Crescent Alumni Association, active in the Frontier Country Historical Society, and founding member of the History of Crescent Facebook page.

Deann was an avid, lifelong Oklahoma State University fan. Following in her father's footsteps, she attended OSU as a student of journalism. She was proud that both her children and their spouses were OSU graduates. She was thrilled when her eldest grandchild became a fourth generation OSU Cowboy in the fall of 2019.

Deann worked at Pioneer Telephone in Kingfisher from January 1981 until her retirement on February 10, 2015.

She was active in church and directed or worked VBS programs for over 20 years.

Deann was a beloved mother, Grannie, and friend who believed deeply that all people should be treated with human decency and love regardless of color, creed, lifestyle, or net worth.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and stepmother, Hazel Owen. Survivors include her children, Joann Sugrue and husband Sean of Oklahoma City and James Lewis and wife Jami of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Cherokee Hills Christian Church in Warr Acres, OK. Services will be available to view remotely via live feed on her Facebook page.

In Lieu of flowers family request donations be made to the following: Frontier Country Historical Society, Crescent Alumni Association, Oklahoma State University, Department of Journalism Scholarship Fund, Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation
