Carol Jean (Upton) Lewallen

Carol Jean (Upton) Lewallen
August 10, 1938 ~ July 23, 2021

Carol Jean (Upton) Lewallen, 82, passed away in her home on Friday, July 23rd after a short battle with cancer. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home.

Born in Kirksville, Missouri, Carol lived most of her early years and attended school in Sheldon, Missouri. She was daughter to Hugh Dean and Gladys Crystell Upton, both deceased. She had two siblings, Lana Juanita (Upton) Cooper and Michael Dean Upton, both deceased.

In Sheldon, Carol met and fell in love with her future husband, Johnnie Junior Lewallen. They enjoyed 54 years together until John’s passing in 2010. Together they made their home in several states, settling in Bartlesville for more than 40 years.

John and Carol raised two daughters, Stacy Leigh Lewallen, of Bartlesville, OK and Lisa Gay Lewallen, formerly of Phoenix, AZ. She cherished her grandsons, Dylan Thomas Tucker and Cody James Tucker and their families. She also leaves behind her precious nieces and nephews, Terry Elrod, Jim Cooper, Billie Ann Platner and Shane Upton as well as her loving Greenstreet cousins.

A homemaker for several years, Carol also worked outside the home as bailiff for Judge Janice P. Dreiling.

Carol loved traveling, playing and listening to music, painting and playing bridge with her friends. She visited many countries. A self-taught musician, she played the guitar and piano.

At the age of 60 Carol decided to take violin lessons and was proud to be in the 2nd string violin section of the Bartlesville Symphony for several years. She also enjoyed entertaining others in the ensemble, Heartstrings. Her love of music and art brought beauty to her children and grandchildren as well.

Instrumental in the creation of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bartlesville, Carol served on the board there for many years.

Gifts in Carol’s name may be made to Cornerstone Hospice of Bartlesville.

A private celebration of Carol’s life will be held at a later date.
