Graveside services for Thomas Clyde Lemons, 92, of Burneyville were held at 11:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 19 in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas.
Born January 14, 1921 in Valley View, Texas, the son of James Clifton and Francis Edna Barber Lemons, he died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.
A resident of the area since 1999, Mr. Lemons moved to Love County from San Antonio where he had made his home most of his life. A veteran with the U.S. Army Air Corps for 28 years, Mr. Lemons served two overseas tours – the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal with Silver Clasp – 1 Loop, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 3 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Distinguished Unit Citation and the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Following his retirement, he taught school in San Antonio for 20 years. His main hobby was fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace Ruth Ellis Lemons; two sisters, Edna Dean and Winnie Fred McGehee; and two brothers, Ray Lemons and Bud Lemons.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin James Lemons of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and David Lemons of Dallas; a daughter, Deborah Lemons of Burneyville; a brother, Wesley Lemons of Sherman, Texas; three sisters, Fay Mileur of Sadler, Texas, Jo Ann Jacobs of Vidor, Texas and Shirley Carter of Ardmore; and four grandchildren, Michael Lemons, Matthew Lemons, James Lemons and Michelle De La Garza.
