Bartlesville - Roy Carlton "Carl" Lee, 83, Chemical Engineer for Phillips Petroleum Company, died November 24, 2021.
Carl was born August 14, 1938, in a car on the way to the hospital in Pampa, Texas to parents Roy and Velma (Young) Lee. His family moved to Oilton, Oklahoma where he spent his childhood. He attended High School in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and then on to the Colorado School of Mines. He received his Ph.D., Master of Science, and Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University in Chemical Engineering. In 1966 Carl joined Phillips Petroleum where he spent his career. He was very accomplished, having 5 registered patents dealing with auto emissions, and a fuel and chemical processes Merit Award from the Society of Auto Engineers. He also received the Master of Process Engineering awarded by Phillips Petroleum Company in 1998. In 1999 he retired from Phillips.
Though he was quite accomplished in his career, those awards and accolades pale in comparison to his achievements made in his personal life. On April 3, 1971 Carl wed Doris Jean Dietzel at the Dewey Church of Christ, where he also served as an elder for 25 years. He was a man of many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, especially with his grandchildren. Carl enjoyed cooking with his specialty being pizza. Family game night was always a favorite. He also was an avid reader and baseball fan, and liked doing needlepoint. Carl had a terrific sense of humor; he was the master of "Dad Jokes."
Carl was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Epperson and Anna Lyons.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Doris Lee of the home, a son Christopher and wife Jeannine Lee of Bartlesville, daughters Kristin Lee of Oklahoma City and Keri and husband Rudy Mills of Manhattan, Kansas. Carl is also survived by his grandchildren Stephen, Garrett, and Allison Lee of Bartlesville and Payton and Silas Mills of Manhattan, Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Dewey Church of Christ, 1313 N. Osage Ave., Dewey, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial contribution be made in his name to the Dewey Church of Christ Mission Funds.
