On August 15, 2008, Calene entered that peaceful home that God prepares for his children. She had bravely fought cancer for six years. Calene died in the home of her son, Austin, in Fort Worth, TX. She had the gentle care of her family and the Hospice Organization.
Her parents were Burdge F. Green, M.D. and Jacqueline Harriet (Burr) Green (who died in 1989). Dorothy Ferguson became her step-mother in 1992. Calene was born in London, Ont., Canada on April 3, 1948 and later in that year the family moved to Prairie Grove, AR. In 1950, they moved to Stilwell, OK where Calene graduated from high school. She attended SMU in Dallas, and then went to the University of Oklahoma earning her Masters degree in Speech and Hearing Science. She went to Houston, TX where she opened two speech therapy clinics specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with communication and swallowing disorders. Calene then became interested in charitable giving and became a professional speaker and fund raiser. She served as Director of Philanthropy for the following organizations; The Arc of Fort Bend County; United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston; The Social Venture Partnerships, and The Nature Conservancy. In 2006, she moved to Bellingham, WA, and served as CEO of the Whatcom County Community Foundation.
Carlene was married to Stan Cameron and had three sons who were born in Houston. Travis Hunter Cameron II ; Austin Forrest Cameron, and Christopher Cash Cameron. Later, she changed her surname to Lebeau which was her grandmother's maiden name.
Her surviving family includes; Barbara Bollenbach and husband Scott of Kingfisher, OK., Beverly Ellis and husband Ike of Oklahoma City, OK., Kathy Elder of Oklahoma City, OK., and Marion DeCell of McKinney, TX. Nieces; Laura Bollenbach Moore, Angela Bollenbach Swienton, Christy Counts, Kimberly Counts Anderson, Jacqueline DeCell, and Devan DeCell. Nephews; Austin Bollenbach, Burdge F. Green IV, Easton Elder, Evan Elder and Cameron DeCell, one great niece; Ashlyn Moore, Great nephews; Thomas and Alexander Swienton, Gardner Heitzmann, and Andrew Moore. Her aunt; Ruth Green Apland and her uncle Charles Gordon Green of Canada.
She was preceded in death by her brother Burdge F. Green, III, (who died in 2006), her aunt; Calene (Burr) Beaudua, her grandparents; The Rev. Burge F. Green, and Evelyn (Wicks) Green, and her great grandmother Gertrude (LaBeau) Burr.
Carlene did not wish to have a funeral or memorial service but enjoyed her family and friends who gathered at her bedside in her son's home on Lake Worth, TX. It was her wish that her sons sprinle her cremains on Mt. Baker in Washington State.
