Memorial services for Clark Lawrence will be at Billings Funeral in Woodward, Oklahoma, at 2:30 pm on February 25th.
Granville Clark Lawrence, Jr. was born March 18, 1927 in Woodward. He attended local elementary and junior high school in Woodward. Clark then attended the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, Oklahoma from 1942-1946; graduating high school in 1945 then continued another year to complete four years of ROTC which qualified him for a commission. He then attended the University of Missouri, Columbia for two years; Clark transferred to the University of Oklahoma where he met the love of his life LuAnne Lancaster of Seminole, Oklahoma. LuAnne and Clark married in 1948 and were united for 67 years. Clark and LuAnne both completed their education at the University of Oklahoma. Clark received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism. While attending OU he was a member of the Student Union Board, life member of Alpha Delta Sigma and member of Phi Kappa Sigma and he worked on the Oklahoma Daily.
Clark and LuAnne returned to Woodward in September of 1949 where he began working for the Woodward Daily Press.
Clark and LuAnne started their family in 1951 with a set of twins, Gregory Clark and Mark Dudley and then in 1952 came along their third son Christopher Neil.
Clark is survived by his wife LuAnne, his three sons, one sister Alice Klick and husband Jay, five grandchildren; Tyfanie and husband Jeff Neubauer, Bridgette and husband Tracy Speake, Zachary and wife Whitney, Myranda and husband Chris Amanis, Gyll and husband Eric Sanders along with at total of 12 Great Grandchildren.
In 1952 Clark was named Editor of the Woodward Daily Press and served in that capacity until 1975 when he was named Publisher. Clark retired the Woodward Daily Press in 1986. Clark previously served on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce, Plains Indians Pioneers Museum, Red Cross, St. John's Episcopal Church, Kids, Inc., member of Kiwanis, BPO Elks Lodge and member of the Oklahoma Press Association, as well as American Newspaper Publisher Association and served as member of visiting committee to OU Journalism School.
It would be a wish of Clark's to make a donation to the Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum in lieu of flowers.
