David James Larson

David James Larson
July 30, 1947 ~ October 6, 2025

David James Larson, a resident of Shawnee, passed away at home on Monday, October 6, 2025, surrounded by his family.

 David was born on July 30, 1947, in the Los Angeles, Calif., area to Ivan Victor Larson and Jean (VanCamp) Larson. He grew up and attended school in California and graduated from Downey High School in Downey, Calif. He later moved to Oklahoma and attended college at Oklahoma Baptist University, graduating in 1970.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He thoroughly enjoyed reading, playing the pipe organ and spending time with his family.

David spent many years working in the hospitality industry. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as a civilian contractor in Iraq. David worked as a church administrator at Wesley United Methodist Church in Shawnee, where he was a church member, for approximately 10 years before retiring in 2023.

David married Janice Adams on October 4, 2008, in Shawnee. They remained happily married until his death. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son and he will be missed greatly by the many people who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by both his parents; two brothers, Timothy Larson and Danny Larson; stepmother, Mamie Larson; and numerous cousins and extended family.

David is survived by his wife, Janice Larson of the home; two sons, Thomas Larson and wife Sheri of Oklahoma City and James Larson of Shawnee; a daughter Jennifer Marsh and husband Josh of Ozark, Mo.; sister, SaraRuth Shaub of Shawnee; three stepchildren, April Bennett and husband Aaron of Chandler, Danielle McAlister of Chandler, and Alyson Prewett and husband Jimmy of Chandler; two nieces, Christiana Bateman and husband Joey of Midwest City and Charity Pearce of Wisconsin; numerous other nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and numerous other extended family.

A memorial service for David will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with Dr. Jeff Johnson and under the direction of McElyea & Owens Funeral Group of Shawnee.
