David Lee Lanham, "The Painter Man", was born on April 8, 1942 in Poca, West Virginia to Worthy and Opal (Rhodes) Lanham. He died at his home in Lawton on October 24, 2013 with his family at his side. A reception will be held in David's memory at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 in the Whinery-Huddleston Family Center.
David left school early in order to find work and become a productive member of society; an attitude David valued his entire life. He spent over 20 years with Fairmont Creamery and Farm Fresh Dairy as a plant worker making ice cream, cheese and other dairy products.
David married Karen Marie Bard on May 31, 1968 in Irwin, OH, and they made a permanent move to Lawton in 1972. After leaving the dairy industry, David worked as self-employed house painter for many years until his health forced him to retire. David enjoyed taking his family on annual vacations which they all looked forward to and enjoyed. He collected paintings, spent many enjoyable hours having coffee with his friends on their daily gatherings at Burger King, hunted his many types of "treasures" and enjoyed the solitude of hiking in the mountains. His family was his life and he lived to spend time with his grandkids. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Billy Lanham.
Survivors include his wife Karen of the home; a son, Joseph Lanham and a daughter, Crissy Berry, both of Lawton; a brother, Dayton Lanham of Delaware, OH; a sister, Dottie Pifer of Canal Winchester, OH; 2 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, and numerous extended family members and friends.
