Sonny "Mike" Lamb

Sonny "Mike" Lamb
September 2, 1931 ~ February 24, 2023

Sonny “Mike” Lamb, age 91, of Yuba, Oklahoma and formerly of Livingston, Texas passed away on February 24, 2023, at his home. Sonny was born on September 2, 1931, in Livingston, Texas to Henry Jefferson and Bennie Belle (Womack) Lamb.

He graduated from Deer Park High School where he held the title of Mr. Deer Park and excelled in football, basketball, and track. He attended Lee College for real estate training and went on to buy and sell many properties.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was later Honorably Discharged.

He loved rodeo and began riding bulls. After a while, he added steer wrestling to his events. When he wasn’t competing in the arena, he was announcing in the stand above the arena. He was trained in instrumentation and spent many years along the Houston ship channel before moving on to work in Alaska until his retirement.

He married Jelene Lamb, the mother of his two children, Gary, and Julie and, later, married Sidney (Brown) Lamb. He was a life-long cattle rancher whose focus was on breeding a healthy, gentle herd and didn’t mind giving a wild one a “trip to town”. In his spare time, he experimented with grafting pecan trees and showcased his artistic side by writing poetry, painting, and playing the ukulele. When he began to slow down, he enjoyed a seriously competitive game of cards with the great Grandkids. He loved to laugh, was kind to all, and will be greatly missed.

Sonny is preceded in death by is parents; wives Jelene Lamb and Sidney Lamb; brother Henry Elliot Lamb, and sisters Bennie Marie Smith and Mary Larson.

Sonny is survived by his children, Gary Lamb and wife Debra of Dayton, TX, Julie Lamb of Hendrix, OK, and Kary Warren and husband Rick of Davis, OK; sister Billie Lynn Myers and husband Luther of Livingston, TX; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a long list of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, from 6-8 at Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, OK.

If sending flowers, please send to Midway Cemetery in Livingston, TX. In lieu of flowers, if you would like, donate to your favorite charity.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Midway Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Jerry Chapman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gary Lamb, Zac Colbert, Johnny Chad McAvoy, Jeremy Tyson, Cody McAvoy, and Matthew Magana.
