William "Bill" Lakey Jr. was born November 7, 1941 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Dorothy Lois and William David Lakey Sr. He passed away March 25, 2017 in Piedmont, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 18 days.
Bill grew up in Sayre, Oklahoma and graduated from Sayre High School in 1959. After high school, he attended Oklahoma State University, transferring to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business.
In 1962, he married Carol Ann Chalfant and started a family. They had two daughters, DeAnn and Cara.
Bill's banking career began when he first served as a National Bank Examiner, and then as an officer for several banks in Oklahoma, including Penn Square Bank, where he served as vice president and was instrumental in starting its oil and gas department.
His next two business ventures included a stint in the oil and gas industry during the Oklahoma oil boom in the 1980's, and handicapper at Remington Park, which included publishing his tip sheet, "Preacher's Picks," writing editorials about horse racing for several local newspapers and giving informational seminars. During this time, he met Mary Christina (Stephens) Lakey and married her on July 23, 1991 in Colorado.
Bill and Chris returned to his home town of Sayre for many years, where they owned and operated a Bed and Breakfast and steak house, before returning to the Oklahoma City area to retire in Piedmont, OK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and oldest daughter, Lisa DeAnn Lakey.
He is survived by his wife, Chris, of the home; two brothers, Eddie Tom Lakey and wife, Marinita and Robert Lakey and wife, Sue Ann, both of Sayre, OK; one sister, Phyllis Welk and husband, Bill, Broken Arrow, OK; daughter, Cara Cutter and husband, Michael, Edmond, OK; granddaughter, Jordyn Taylor Wynn; two grandsons, Jonathan David Wynn and James Midland Reeves Wynn; four step children Debbie Loyd; Tina Ward and husband, Bob; Robert Wathan and Justin Frank; 12 step grandchildren; 16 step great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
