Jack Lackey, longtime Cushing resident, retired from Phillips Petroleum Company, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at his residence at the age of 79 years.
The son of the late Jiles Logan Lackey and Mildred Ethel Maple Lackey, Jack was born on April 18, 1930 in Douglas, KS, receiving his education in Gordon, KS and graduating from high school in Arizona.
He was united in marriage to Doshia Maudine Bowman on Sept. 25, 1948 in Glendale, AZ and to this union five sons, Jack Jr., Robert, Randy, Kenneth and David were born.
Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church; was active with the church mission work and had always been very involved in the community where he had lived.
He had served on the town council, was a Scout Master and was a PTA President in Great Bend, KS and PTO President at Norfolk School. He had been a Mason since 1959, currently belonging to the Cushing Lodge where he had served several years as Worshipal Master, receiving his 50 year pin this past year; was a former member of the Elks, Eagles and Moose Lodge.
He loved volunteering; was a member of the Cushing Regional Hospital Auxiliary; served several years on the Senior Citizen Advisory Board and had volunteered many hours with the local blood drive.
He worked the voting booth during elections, drove the school bus for Norfolk schools and also taught defensive driving in Cushing.
He enjoyed square dancing, hunting for deer and pheasant, fishing and spending time with his many friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Maudine of the home; his children, Bob Lackey and his wife Betty of Yale, Kenneth Lackey and his wife Nancy of Conway Springs, KS and David Lackey and his wife Donna of Paoli, OK; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Jack Jr., who was killed in Vietnam and Randy who passed away in July of 2008; two sisters, Eva Josephine McGinty and Freda Elviria Gable and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Ted Uhlig, pastor, and Chaplain Marvel Barron, with Sol-A-Mor Hospice, officiating.
Burial will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. with Masonic services being held at the cemetery.
