Shirley Ann Kyes, 77, of Bartlesville, died Saturday in Bartlesville.
Shirley was born the daughter of Wayne and Edna B. (Clapp) Shawl on May 16, 1940, in Wellsville, New York. She was raised in southwest New York state and graduated from Belmont Central High School in 1958. Growing up, Shirley worked at her parents' general store and gas station. In 1967 Shirley set out for California to start a new life, settling in San Diego. In 1981 she met Murry Kyes and found a shared love for dancing and each other. They married on April 15, 1982, on Murry's birthday and lived all over California before moving to Iowa in 1995 and finally moving to Bartlesville in 2007 to be near her lifelong best friend and to escape the snow.
Shirley and Murry loved to dance the two step and other popular dances. Later in life Shirley loved to sing karaoke and would practice at home to perfect her performance before singing in public or with friends. Shirley loved the Lord and expressed her faith to those she knew and loved. Many memorable times were spent with her church family at Grace of God Pentecostal Church and she will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband Murry of the home; children Melanie Milne of New York, Darla Vreugdenhil and Robert of California, and Pamala Clark and Robert of Iowa; step children, Ron Kyes, Phyllis Frick, Tom Kyes, Roxanne Talbert and Melinda Horwith; siblings, Wayne Shawl and Mary, Margaret Snyder and Marie Bryson; brother in law Jim Rex; 25 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sons Michael Shawl and Victor Milne, and one sister Mary Lou Rex.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, April 23, at the Davis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
