Sydney was born on November 11, 1935, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Lew and Theda (Curtis) Howard. They soon moved to Blackwell where she graduated high school in 1953. After receiving her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Clinical Psychology she worked as a clinician at Edwin Fair Mental Health and the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health. She then moved to Enid where she served as the Director of Wheatland Mental Health until her retirement. Following her retirement she moved to Tulsa before returning to Blackwell to make her home.
She is survived by her three children, Kim Kriter Loftis and husband Mike of Blackwell, Terri Childers and husband Wes of Blackwell, and Kurt Kriter and wife Pam of Lodi, California; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25th in the First Christian Church in Blackwell.
A memorial has been established in her honor with the Blackwell Public School Foundation in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home.
