James T. Kliewer, 82, died May 20, 2018, at his home in Sun City, Arizona. He was born in Cherokee, Oklahoma, June 13, 1935, to Francis C. Kliewer and Mildred (Tarr) Kliewer.
He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1953, and from Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, in 1957.
He worked in the banking industry from 1958 through 1987, serving as Chairman of the Board of the Alfalfa County Bank from 1973 until 1982.
He also served as Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Elgin, in Elgin, Oklahoma, and The Farmers State Bank, in Offerle, Kansas.
Kliewer served as Chairman of the Oklahoma Bankers Association in 1980-81 and was mayor of Cherokee from 1965-1967. He also served on the Oklahoma Judicial Nominating Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judith Ann (McEachern) Kliewer, of the home; his son, Marc Kliewer and partner Kimberlea Inderlied, of Garden City, Kansas; his grandson, James M. Kliewer and partner Kelsey Ann Mattingly, Athens, Georgia; his sisters, Mary Frances Hughey, Bellevue, Nebraska, and Linda Licklider and her husband Ron, of Enid, Oklahoma.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A private committal service will be held later. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Hillsdale Christian School, in Hillsdale, Oklahoma.
